Our Story

My World, of which Ernest G. Tannis is President, was set up in 1985 as a not-for-profit organization (nfp) with the motto: “children helping other children pick up the pieces”. The idea for this organization came from Emile Kanim who asked a fellow Lebanese person in Ottawa if he knew of a pro bono lawyer who can help establish this nfp. That’s how they met. Emile left a lucrative business in Los Angeles, California and Ernie was leaving a lucrative law practice in Ottawa, Ontario. The activities and intentions of My World will be written up in due course, as this website evolves.

Coincidentally, they were both on the same mission, both of Lebanese descent, to increase access to justice, and build on non-violent process options for people to prevent, manage and resolve conflicts individually, institutionally and internationally. They shared the same values and a Spiritual perspective or understanding of this temporal life journey, which permeates humanity’s history which itself embraces in various ways, all thought systems, including atheism and its diverse elements, philosophies, religions, the great Teachings of all Cultures, and political systems.

Emile wrote a booklet: “Wake up America. Wake up World” which will be posted on this website, which is in evolution. After Emile’s passing, with the permission of his family, in his memory and honour, and to preserve his legacy, a My World “Peace with Justice” Award was created.
